Position:  Administrative Assistant

Location:  The main office of UNITE HERE Local 11 is located at 464 S Lucas Av, Suite 201, Los Angeles, CA 90017. Local 11 also has offices in Garden Grove, Inglewood, Long Beach, and in Phoenix, Arizona.

Job Responsibilities including but not limited to

  • Complete multiple responsibilities on a daily basis
  • Written and verbal communications with members, staff and employers
  • Perform translation of written text from English to Spanish and vice versa
  • Organize and schedule appointments/meetings
  • Assistance with coordinating special events and projects
  • Book travel arrangements
  • Submit and reconcile expense reports
  • Answering incoming telephone calls and retrieving daily messages
  • Maintain filing system
  • Order office supplies and research new deals and suppliers
  • Generate necessary reports as required
  • Other duties as assigned 

Job Requirements/Qualifications

The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

  • 2–3 years experience in related field
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Access; Mac & PC
  • Working knowledge of office equipment; e.g., printers, fax machines, and copiers
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and high capacity for attention to details.
  • Typing at above the range of 60 and 70 wpm.
  • Proficient data entry
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently within the context of a plan
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; must work well with others
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • All applicants must have a resume with six months of recent office experience and a recent employment reference.

Position:  Campaign Researcher

Campaign Researchers conduct in-depth investigative, industry and corporate research, and develop and implement strategic campaigns in support of the Union's internal and external organizing programs.

Location:  Los Angeles, California

Job Responsibilities including but not limited to

  • Research companies using a wide variety of sources, including published databases, on-line and Internet sources as well as informational interviews with union, industry and financial sources.
  • Conduct local and field research on companies and industries.
  • Develop corporate analysis and adapt it for various audiences (e.g. staff, workers, stockholders, the public).
  • Develop and implement campaign strategies and tactics.
  • Develop expertise in UNITE HERE industries.
  • Work with UNITE HERE members, organizers, and regional staff, as well as with community members and elected leaders to move campaigns forward.

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Activist experience and demonstrated commitment to fighting for workers’ rights.
  • BA Degree or relevant research and/or organizing experience (labor, political or community).
  • Strong analytical, writing, computer and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel and to work long and irregular hours.
  • Familiarity with database and word processing software.
  • Ability to effectively manage a workload with competing priorities and deadlines, and thrive in fast-changing, emerging set of circumstances where it will be necessary to work independently and take initiative.
