downtown_long_beach>> Hotel Workers Organizing in Long Beach

The City of Long Beach has invested an estimated $750 million in tourism development since the early 1980s in order to reinvent its downtown as a destination for vacationers and convention attendees.

But the hotels that have benefited from that investment have produced low-wage hotel jobs, which contribute to high levels of poverty in the city.

For more than two years, the hotel workers of the Disneyland Resort have been fighting back against Disney's attack on workers' healthcare.

Instead of continuing to provide affordable, quality healthcare for its employees, Disney Corporation wants to implement changes that would make healthcare unaffordable for many.

Hyatt>> Hyatt, Good Jobs NOW!

As of November 2009, more than 20 hotel workers' contracts are expired in Los Angeles. Workers from two LA Hyatt hotels -- Hyatt Regency Century Plaza and Hyatt Andaz in West Hollywood -- are leading the way at the negotiating table. They are standing strong to win good contracts that bring Angelenos back to work with liveable wages and affordable benefits.

As the hospitality industry bounces back, Hyatt workers are making sure everyone is included that recovery.
