CONTRACT RATIFICATIONS FOR 8 COMPASS CAFETERIAS

Through the month of February, we have ratified eight contracts with Compass for over 400 cafeteria workers in:
  • Sony Studios (Compass/Wolfgang Puck),
  • Disney Glendale, Disney Burbank, NBC Universal, Dreamworks and CalArts (Compass/Bon Appetit)
  • Paramount, Raytheon (Compass/Eurest)
We won pensions for all, entry into the Local 11 health fund, which reduced monthly insurance premiums by hundreds of dollars, and $10.50 in wage increases between now and 2028. The new contracts will expire 2 weeks before the Olympics.

CONTRACT RATIFICATION FOR ARAMARK WORKERS AT BOEING SEAL BEACH

The cafeteria workers at Boeing in Seal Beach ratified a new contract with Aramark that will give them an immediate $7 raise that will increase to $10.50 for the lernght of the contract. Workers will also be part of the Local 11 health fund. Congratulations!!!

UNION VICTORY: THELMA GOT HER JOB BACK!

Thelma Cortez from Flying Food Group reported alleged repeated unwanted sexual comments, advances, and inappropriate conduct by a supervisor. She was disciplined twice and placed on an indefinite suspension, losing substantial overtime income, and later was informed by the company intended to terminate her.
But she fought and with the support of her union got her job back!
Last week she and two other silence breakers filed a complaint calling on the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Contract Administration (BCA) and Human Rights Department to launch a full investigation into Flying Food Group, following allegations that the company retaliated against workers who reported sexual harassment and discrimination.

DOÑA SALUD GOT HER SHIFT BACK!

Doña Salud, who is 83, is returning to her morning shift!

Last year Flying Food Group gave Doña Salud a shift that ended at midnight, and as someone who is 83 and has to take multiple buses to get to and from work every day, it was tremendously exhausting.

After her dish department got together and organized a successful shift bid on her behalf, justice was served!

CAPITAL & MAIN: When Workers Unite, Even Disney Has to Listen

“It’s difficult to overstate the significance of last week’s final approval of a $233 million settlement between the Walt Disney Co. and the tens of thousands of Disneyland employees whom the company has underpaid for years.

This is a battle that dates to 2018, when Anaheim voters passed a measure — backed by a coalition of unions — that was squarely intended to force the House of Mouse to pay workers something approaching a living wage. Instead, Disney resisted the law for years before finally being held accountable.”

LA Convention Center Expansion

LA City Council’s final vote on the proposed LA Convention Center Expansion and Modernization passed. We joined a coalition of organized labor, business, and community leaders to rally in front of City Hall in support of the expansion.
“I’ve been doing this job for 15 years, and I’ve served thousands of event attendees. This job matters to me,” said Erika Bowman, Bartender for Compass/Levy at the LA Convention Center and member of UNITE HERE Local 11.
