2nd Non-Violence Direct Action Training in Phoenix!

We gathered with so many incredible people for a second training on Non-Violent Direct Action in Phoenix! Nearly 150 activists, workers, elected leaders, and community partners came together to ground ourselves and commit together to the practice of nonviolent direct action, built on the foundation of Reverend James Lawson Jr.’s teachings. Freedom is a constant struggle, but in the words of the 6th principle of nonviolence: “Nonviolence believes the universe is on the side of justice. The moral arc bends toward justice — but only when we push, together, with discipline and faith.”

NO ICE IN LA

On Saturday October 4 we marched together with a  powerful coalition of orgs, unions, and community groups to protest ICE and the $29.9 billion giveaway they received to tear our country apart.  We took to the streets to fight for justice, dignity, and freedom, and to say:  NO more ICE in our neighborhoods, NO more raids or fear, and YES to love and the power of the working class.

Tucson Non-Violence Direct Action Training

So many organizers, community members, and faith leaders came out for our Nonviolent Direct Action Training in Tucson! People came from all backgrounds and all different levels of organizing to meet others fighting the good fight and to study “the science of how you create a world that practices truth, justice, and compassion,” as Reverend Lawson would say!

We’re excited to bring this training to Phoenix at the end of September, so stay tuned to hear how to participate! You can click here to see all the pictures form the training.

Taking Back MacArthur Park

On August 12, 2025 UNITE HERE Local 11 and union and community allies took back MacArthur Park following the military-style immigration raid that happened there a few weeks back. The labor movement and its allies are taking back the city and reclaiming it as our own LA is a union town!

LA NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION TRAINING

On July 10th, the labor movement gathered over 1,400 workers, clergy members, and other justice allies to participate in a Nonviolent Direct Action Training.
The LA Federation of Labor, UNITE HERE Local 11, UCLA Labor Center, CLUE, UFCW, AFSCME, SEIU, UAW, and other unions are taking on the role to train activists from all over Southern California in the tradition of Civil Rights Movement teachings pioneered by the late Reverend James M. Lawson.
Reverend Lawson had a long history teaching Local 11 leaders the practice of non-violent direct action. We honor him by continuing to follow in his footsteps.
