UNITE HERE Local 11 represents approximately 30,000 workers in the hospitality and multi-service industries throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, California and Phoenix, Arizona. We are housekeepers, bellmen, food servers, cooks, dishwashers, bartenders and many other employees in the tourism and food service industries. UNITE HERE Local 11 has four offices in California (Los Angeles, Garden Grove, Inglewood, and Long Beach) and one in Phoenix, Arizona. The main office is located at 464 S Lucas Ave, Suite 201, Los Angeles, CA 90017. This position works primarily from the main office in Los Angeles.


Job Responsibilities
include but are not limited to the following:

  • Complete multiple responsibilities on a daily basis
  • Written and verbal communication with members, staff, and employers
  • Translate written text from English to Spanish and vice versa
  • Organize and schedule appointments and meetings
  • Help coordinate special events and projects
  • Book travel arrangements
  • Submit and reconcile expense reports
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and retrieve daily messages
  • Maintain filing system
  • Order office supplies and research new deals and suppliers
  • Generate necessary reports as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements/Qualifications
The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required for the position:

  • 2 ­–3 years experience in related field
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Mac & PC
  • Working knowledge of office equipment e.g., printers, fax machines, and copiers
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and high capacity for attention to detail
  • Typing at or above 60–70 wpm
  • Proficient data entry
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently within the context of a plan
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; must work well with others
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Personnel Administrator

UNITE HERE Local 11 represents 32,000 hospitality workers across Southern California and Arizona. Our local is the fastest growing in the private sector. We are looking for a motivated Personnel Administrator who wants to work for an organization dedicated to social justice for working people. This position works primarily from the main office in Los Angeles.

JOB TITLE: Personnel Administrator


The Personnel Administrator will perform a wide variety of professional and administrative duties in the areas of general human resources: benefits management, staff policy management and compliance with employment laws. The Personnel Administrator will be responsible for providing support to the Staff Director to develop and oversee systems to address a range of personnel issues. This role is full-time, exempt.


  • Assist in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommend best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Assist the leadership of the union in implementing personnel policies and practices that are aligned with overall organizational goals.
  • Conduct the on-boarding process for all new hires; provide to staff and rank-and-file workers employed by the union ongoing training and support on administrative procedures related to their employment.
  • Help union leadership explain and implement personnel policies with staff.
  • Assist the Staff Director in developing and maintaining systems to track the regular evaluation and development of staff.
  • Maintain complete personnel records for all staff.
  • Assist the Payroll department to ensure accurate and timely submission by staff of all pay, expense, and benefit-related paperwork.
  • Interface with tenants of the union’s property and other service providers around any personnel policies applicable to them.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3–5 years of Human Resources and/or personnel administrative experience in a non-profit organization

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated passion for progressive politics and social justice
  • Experience providing feedback and advice to employees on compliance issues in a proactive and compassionate manner.
  • Basic knowledge of state and federal employment practices, policies, legal and EEOC guidelines, as well as compensation, wage and hour, and benefits administration.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized, with excellent follow-through and analytical skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interface with others inside and outside of the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Excellent digital skills (Microsoft and Google Workspace); capacity to quickly learn and train staff on new apps, database programs.
  • Must be able to work independently, juggle priorities, and manage time to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task in a diverse, fast-paced environment.
