Workers at the Universal Hilton Win their First Union Contract!

On March 19, at 4:38 AM the workers of the Universal Hilton settled their first union contract. Pending ratification, workers won—amongst many other benefits—substancial raises, healthcare, pension, and workload protection. Workers will get a $4 raise in the first year, and $10 over the 4-year contract. The contract will cover about 250 workers. Congratulations to all the workers whose life is about to get much better!

SUPPORTING THE TEACHERS IN THEIR CONTRACT FIGHT

Members of Local 11 joined their brothers and sisters from UTLA to demonstrate our support for their contract fight. More than 30,000 people rallied at Grand Park in DTLA, calling on LAUSD to accept a fair contract for teachers, or they will go out on strike on April 14. Also—with so many people around us—we took the opportunity to collect signatures for the Overpaid CEOs initiative. When we fight together, we win!

DODGERS, DON’T GO TO THE WHITE HOUSE!

World Series champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers are scheduled to visit the White House to celebrate their victory with an administration that has been terrorizing immigrant communities across Los Angeles and the country. Being a team with several immigrants and that represents a city of immigrants, we’re asking them not to go!

Several Dodger Stadium workers went outside the Dodger’s Spring Training facility in Camelback Ranch to call on the team to NOT GO TO THE WHITE HOUSE!

Together with members of the LA Federation of Labor, workers at the Hilton Garden Inn LAX—who have won union recognition over a year ago—picketed outside the hotel demanding that management sign their first union contract!

Arizona State University Poverty Report Briefing

Arizona State University Food Service Workers were invited to speak at Worker Power’s release of their most recent report that focuses on the working poverty at ASU. Huge shoutout to Victor, Corina, and Ellen who bravely shared their stories with the community.

Second Round of Negotiations at Disney

On the second round of negotiations for Disney workers over two dozen cast members testified for two and a half hours about workplace injuries and unreasonable workloads. The union contract at Disney expired January 30 and covers 2,800 workers.

WORKERS AT THE RESIDENCE INN LONG BEACH GO PUBLIC

Union members, clergy, and community leaders joined the workers of the Residence Inn by Marriott Long Beach as they took the brave step of going public and are asking for a fair process to organize to join the union and bring dignity and respect to their workplace.

CREWS LAX is told to pay workers over a million dollars in retro pay

After nearly 2 years of arbitration, Crews at LAX has been ordered to pay over $1 million to its employees in backpay. According to the contract ordered by the Arbitrator Crews workers wages will rise significantly along with their benefit contributions. Thanks to the perseverance and determination of these workers in their fight for justice and fair wages, they will now benefit from their two year long struggle.
